Executive Perspective
August, 2021
By: Harish Harlani, Global Leader P&G Chemicals
Hello friends, let me start by introducing myself. I started my career with P&G in India 25 years ago (I am Indian) before moving to Singapore in 2002. In 2014, I was exposed to the P&G Chemicals Business as the Managing Director for our FPG Joint Venture in Kuantan, leading Global Palm Sourcing (including sustainability) for the company, while also continuing to lead the P&G purchases organization in Singapore.
Now, I have been trusted by the company leadership to lead the global business of P&G Chemicals. I will remain based out of our Singapore offices.
As I start my tenure in this new role, I wanted to share my perspective on where we’ve been and what’s ahead for our business:
When times are tough; the tough get going. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed global dynamics in all walks of life; from business to social, from individual to family/friends, and accelerated changes in the way we interact and conduct business. When faced with significant challenges, the companies and individuals that are more adaptable in terms of skill sets, mindset and resiliency will do better than the ones that don’t. P&G, as a company, and P&G Chemicals, as the business, over the past years have amply demonstrated the behaviours that are critical for continued success in difficult times.
P&G had a strong fiscal 2021.The focus on superiority and strong business investments, funded with robust productivity improvement and cost savings, drove market growth. This led to strong sales, share, earnings, and cash results. For the 2021 fiscal year, growth was broad-based, with each of our 10 product categories growing or holding organic sales. You can read about our results here.
Global P&G Chemicals business priorities remain the same. We are adapting our approach to deliver in the post pandemic world. We continue to focus on co-creating value for our External Business Partners and P&G with strong supply chain resiliency, be a “Force for Good” by driving industry wide changes in the area of Palm Sustainability, and embrace new digital tools to simplify and automate.
As the incoming leader for P&G Chemicals, I am thankful to all the people and companies we work with for your ongoing support of our mutual business objectives. I do appreciate your warm welcoming messages that have enabled me to feel connected despite travel restrictions. I look forward to meeting all of you in person in the coming months, as global vaccinations reduce travel restrictions. Take care of yourself, family, friends, and business. Stay Safe.
