On July 16, 2020, P&G committed to accelerate efforts on climate change by advancing a portfolio of natural climate solutions that will deliver a carbon benefit equal to our cumulative Scope 1 and 2 emissions over the next 10 years. This will effectively make the company’s operations carbon neutral for the decade.
P&G has an existing 2030 goal of a 50% absolute reduction in our Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions (vs. 2010 baseline). We intend to achieve this by increasing energy efficiency and purchasing 100% renewable electricity globally. This goal has been approved by the Science Based Target Initiative as being aligned with reductions needed to keep global temperature increase well below 2⁰C.
Our goal is to be carbon neutral for the decade as described above. This framing is consistent with the recognition that the next decade represents a critical window to accelerate efforts to address climate change. Efforts to address climate change will need to continue well beyond the next decade. Technology and policy may evolve significantly over the next 10 years. As P&G progresses on its journey, it will continue to assess the climate change landscape and set its future goals accordingly.
